Junior Classes (Ages 6–13 years)
Schedule
- Term Time Only — Classes follow the local school term calendar here (also scheduled in the Spond app).
- Duration: 1 hour (18:30–19:30)
- Days: Tuesdays and Fridays
What We Teach
Junior training focuses on building a strong foundation in Wado-Ryu fundamentals while fostering discipline, confidence, and respect. Sessions include:

Progression
Juniors work through a structured grading system with belt ranks from white to black. Regular assessments ensure steady progress at an appropriate pace.
Senior Classes (Ages 13+ years)
Schedule
- Weekly — Runs throughout the year, excluding UK public holidays. There are usually short summer & winter breaks to be advised according to team availability (also scheduled in the Spond app).
- Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes (19:30 warm up + 19:45–21:15 dojo time)
- Days: Tuesdays and Fridays

Progressive Training
Seniors train together regardless of rank, with instruction adapted to individual ability. Advanced students may assist with junior classes as they develop leadership skills. A number our younger members have served as part of the coaching team to achieve various levels of Scouting and Duke of Edinburgh awards.
What to Expect in Your First Class

PLEASE NOTE: We do not tolerate bullying or abuse in any sense. If anyone has concerns about behaviour please raise them with a member of the team.
Gradings

All gradings follow the syllabus of our affiliated governing body The AIWAKAI. Belts and license entries are issued upon successful completion.

Memberships are managed & billed via the Spond app available from your usual app store. Payment requests are sent via Spond on half term boundaries for all categories. Pricing is based on membership numbers, the more members to share the cost the cheaper the classes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is it dangerous? A: As with any physical activity there is always a risk of injury and this is a fighting art. Our training philosophy is designed to minimise risk while maintaining some sense of reality. No one will be expected to do anything beyond their skill level.
Q: Do I need prior experience? A: No. We welcome complete beginners at all ages and abilities. If you already have some training you’ll also be made welcome.
Q: What if I miss a class? A: Please notify the instructor in advance when possible via the Spond app, students are free to make up the time where they can. If absence is long term then subsequent fees may be be suspended in lieu at the committees’ discretion.
Q: Can I train if I have an injury? A: Modified training is often possible. Discuss your situation with the instructor before joining.
Q: Is there a contract? A: Membership is half term-to-half term with notice required for cancellation, there is a set of T&C’s we require you agree to and also the installation of the Spond app is needed for management and paying fees.
